Lighting designer Bentley Meeker was approached by Savona Bailey-McClain and the West Harlem Art Fund to create a public art installation to illuminate 12th Avenue in a contemporary design. Known for his signature oval truss, the designer & artist began the long process of getting the “H” in Harlem approved through the NYC Department of Transportation and their Urban Art Program. Scheduled to light on June 25th, the ring around the “H” will comprise of some 30 LED fixtures, all white, and the “H” itself will be lighted by plasma lighting fixtures, which is a new light that has twice the efficiency of LED yet has all of the spectral properties of full spectrum and even daylight.
